A New Journey Begins!
Once again a trip is being planned by the terrific threesome that conquered the Big Sky in 2015. This time the main destination is North Dakota. Why North Dakota? Last trip we raced through the state heading west. The only reason we stopped in the Theodore Roosevelt NP was to waste time before reaching Great Falls MT.While we were visiting the park we realized the beauty of the place. I also discovered that ND has more Wildlife Refuges than all the surrounding states put together. Its many lakes are breeding grounds for migrating birds. Many more birds pass through ND on their way north.
The Missouri River runs through ND and is steeped in history of the Lewis & Clark Expedition in the early 1800s. Another good reason to explore more.
The trip will start on Monday, June 26. We will head due north and travel through Michigan crossing the Mackinaw Bridge. Our plan is to stay the night at St Ignace and then visit Mackinaw Island the following day. Visiting the fort, Grand Hotel and shops along main street.
We will then head straight west continuing across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Minnesota and then finally crossing into North Dakota at Fargo. From here we will spend close to a week exploring the many regions of ND.
From there we will head to Cody, Wyoming where we have a motel booked for four days. We will arrive in Cody on July 4th, hoping to experience the daily rodeo and Fourth of July fireworks. The following day will be spent visiting the Wild West Museum, which will no doubt take us the whole day. The next two days will be spent exploring Yellowstone NP.
We will then head south to Thermopolis to enjoy the Hot Springs and visit the Dinosaur Museum. Then the long trip home.
Really excited to be traveling again with Nan and Bo. We had such a great time on our last trip. No doubt this trip will be filled with the unexpected surprises and serendipitous adventures.
Look forward to this upcoming adventure!
